Bolt

Madeleine has a new nickname. “Bolt.” Lately, whenever we pick her up from the church nursery or the gym kiddie korner, she bolts for the exit. At the gym, she desperately tries to walk through the gate, sticking her leg through the slats in hopes of getting through by sheer force. Today at church, as soon as she me and the door open, she not only bolted for the door, but took off down the hallway without even acknowledging me.

Bish and Appul

One week ago, while at Jubilee’s ballet class, I fed goldfish crackers and apple slices to Angel and Maddie. Today, right when we reached Jubilee’s class, Angel turned to me and asked, “Bish! Appul!”

Roller Coaster

In the car…

Jubilee: “Whee, we’re on a roller coaster! Roller coaster is so much fun! Yay, we’re on a roller coaster! Mommy, what’s a roller coaster?

“Mommy!”

Today during dinner, we realized that Maddie was saying, “Mommy!” when trying to get Daphne’s attention.

Forward-facing

Angelina had a weight check with the doctor and she’s now 20lbs 5oz!! Yay!! For comparison, Madeleine is 20lbs 12oz.

So, after turning around their car seats, we now have three forward-facing girls. And they love it!!

Picture forthcoming…

Sweet Tooth

Maddie definitely has a sweet tooth. Jubilee and Pau-Pau baked cookies today. Maddie pointed to them and asked to eat some! (She’s never even eaten an oatmeal raisin cookie before.) I lost count of how many times she signed “please.” I guess I fed her too much because 1) I ate too many cookies this afternoon; and 2) she didn’t eat much at dinner.

After dinner, she went to where the cookies had been, but they had moved! David offered her a strawberry, which she at first began to take. Suddenly, she rejected the strawberry, then ran over to where the cookies had been moved and ask for cookies instead!

Angelina had no interest in the cookie. So far, her face does not light up when you give her desserts or even when the sugar hits the tongue.

Buzz!

Yesterday, TWICE, I was called to come pick up Angelina from the nursery.

The first time was at MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) in the morning. They said she was playing fine, then suddenly had a meltdown.

The second time was at church fellowship in the evening. Angel had actually fallen asleep on the way to church, so I don’t know when she woke up or if she woke up crying or had the sudden meltdown like in the morning.

Between picking her up from the nursery and calming her down, we have not heard this type of cry before. It might just be separation anxiety, but it certainly is unexpected difficult to understand. We’re praying for wisdom on how what to do.

Two Thanks and One Praise

We recently implemented a new discipline during prayer time with Jubilee. We ask Jubilee to think of two things for which to thank God today. Sometimes she needs guidance because she just looks around the room and comes up with something she sees. “What’s something you did today or what’s something God gave you today?” After some thinking and/or prompting, she comes up with two things.

We also want teach her the difference between thanking God and praising God. Imagine our surprised delight when she knew the difference. All we asked was, “What’s something for you can praise God? Think of something about God or who He is.” Here’s some of her answers:
• powerful
• mighty
• 3 persons (trinity)

Finally, we tell her to pray by saying the two thanks and one praise. The words are often mumbled, or she simply lists her answers without full sentences. But does this matter? This is not something we have taught her. We firmly believe the Holy Spirit is teaching her how to pray.
