I think Angel is starting to sign “more” now!
Just a few minutes ago we saw Madeleine standing at a coffee table! She usually refuses to straighten her legs. This time, however, she did it all by herself!
Maddie was happily playing amongst a pile of empty water bottles on the hardwood kitchen floor, while Angelina was perched at the top of the two steps leading down from the living room. I saw that Angelina was precariously reaching down toward her pacifier, so I rushed over to grab her, fearing she may fall forward down the steps.
As I was rushing over there, I see Maddie bolt over to the steps, with her eyes on the pacifier. I thought to myself, “Maddie that’s so like you… always taking things from Angelina.” But then Maddie grabbed the pacifier and handed it up to her sister!
It was sooooo cute!
Lately, Maddie’s food eating prowess is erratic. It seems like Angelina is eating more than her! I never thought this was possible. There are times when Maddie isn’t interested in the food we give her. Then there’s times when she no problems eating.
Last night, for example, the two of them shared one and half full rice bowls of food. It was a mix of rice, beef, tofu, and vegetables. While it did appear that Angel ate more, Maddie certainly had her share.
Tonight, we served them pizza. Who doesn’t like pizza??? Apparently, Maddie! David showed me that on her tray, she had one pile of pizza bites that he gave her, and one pile of pizza bites that she chewed and spit out. However, she was very happy with her milk.
We got home late tonight. We put the babies straight to bed. Maddie started crying after a few minutes. When I went in to see her, she signed “more.” (Which pretty much means food.) I put her in her high chair and gave her a club cracker while heating two ounces of milk. She ate the entire cracker and downed the milk. I gave her two more ounces which she drank! She played with the fifth ounce, so I took the bottle away and she happily went to sleep.
This is just so weird to me.
I like to pray for Jubilee before she goes to any kind of class, i.e. Sunday School or Preschool. Today, before Challenger, one of the things I prayed for was that God would protect her.
When I picked Jubilee up from school, I knew that she had learned about Thankgiving in class, so I asked her what she was thankful.
“Daddy,” she replied. “What are you thankful for?”
What a joy it was to hear her ask me a question! It showed she was concerned for my well being. (Forget about the fact that she wasn’t thankful for “Mommy.”)
Tonight, before falling asleep, I suggested we play Happy and Sad. True to it’s name, the object is to say one thing for which you’re happy and one thing for which you’re sad.
Jubilee chose to go first. “I’m happy that God protected me.” (I confirmed that she was referring to my praying for her protection at Challenger!) “I’m sad that Cayley and Auntie Cyrena and Uncle Scot aren’t here.” Indeed, they’re not here for Thanksgiving this year.
Then once again, she came full circle with, “What are you happy and sad about?”
I love these engaging conversations with my daughter!
This morning, I was playing with the babies next to a musical toy. After the toy finished playing a song, I said (and signed) “Maddie, more music” and she immediately reached over and pressed a button to play another song and then gave me her famous grin.
And as the song started playing, Angelina started signing “music” as well.
It’s so exciting to see these little moments when they are able to articulate themselves.
Jubilee climbed into our bed this morning for a little bit. At one point she said, “Last night I was scared, so I asked God for courage and He helped me.”
Maddie’s had a high fever all weekend. I took her to the doctor but there’s no visible infection. We waited it out and she was fine. I thought I saw a rash, but it was so faint that it was either not actually a rash or a very very very faint form of roseola.
When I told the doctor she didn’t get roseola when Anglelina had it, she was very surprised. So maybe Maddie’s a You-Can’t-Get-Me virus fighter.
Also, I had both girls weighed and was pleasantly surprised: Angelina weighs 16lb 10oz and Madeleine weighs 17lb 14oz!
Today marked the first time I saw the beginning stages of “mine” between Angelina and Madeleine. Angelina had a toy that Madeleine took away. In the past, Angelina was fine with it and went about her business looking for something else to do. This morning, however, she actually got upset and tried to take the toy back.
I’m not looking forward to this stage!
