Summer Book Study

What a wonderful day…so far at least. (=

Today marked the first day that some friends of mine came over for a double agenda: 1) discuss a book and; 2) keep the kids occupied by something other than ourselves.

We’re going to spend the summer reading Becoming A Chief Home Officer. While we sit together discussing the book, our toddlers will be playing together while being supervised by some older neighborhood kids.

We all had such a good time today. I didn’t worry once about Jubilee. Angelina and Madeleine behaved! Thanks to my mom, who was able to stay for part of the time and helped feed/hold my babies.

After everyone left, I just felt plain ol’ happy. Happy to be a stay-at-home mom. Thankful that I can be a stay-at-home mom. (It helped that Angelina and Madeleine went down for their nap immediately after everyone left.) Next week I may not be singing the same song. But I will certainly treasure today’s feelings while they last.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. -Matthew 6:34

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. -Luke 2:19

102.2

David thought Madeleine felt a little warm this morning. Toward the end of wake time, she was crying with that frown of hers that is so…well let’s just say I don’t know anyone who can turn the corners of her mouth downward like she can.

After getting her into her bed, she was still crying. Usually she only cries before sleep when she’s experiencing separation anxiety. This cry sounded different, so I felt her head and agreed she was quite warm.

Checked her temperature. Aahhh, 102.2! You call the doctor when it’s over 100.4. She was 98.6 at the doctor yesterday. Madeleine must not yet understand the concept that we have a co-pay for every doctor’s visit. If she did, she would have gotten sick yesterday.

Called the clinic and she has an appointment later this morning.

Maybe this explains why she woke up crying 4 times last night?

David just gave her Tylenol, aka wonder drug. She’s already happy again and settled to sleep quietly.

9-Month Check-up

Angelina and Madeleine had their 9-month check-up today.

After checking out Angelina, the doctor (again) said her lungs sound beautiful. There is no chest congestion. Thankfully, Angelina coughed her deep-sounding cough so the doctor could actually hear it. The doctor explained that what we are hearing is due to Angelina’s runny nose and phlegm drainage. Since a baby is so small, what we felt as a “rattle in her chest” was actually a sound in her throat simply being transmitted through her whole chest cavity. The doctor couldn’t find anything wrong with our little Angel. Praise God! Even the low-grade fever Angelina has had over the past 2 months is of no concern to the doctor since there are no other problematic symptoms.

One possible reason for fever is teething. The doctor said some kids teethe for months before the teeth actually appear. Madeleine is definitely teething and Angelina has four teeth visible under the gums even though we can’t feel them yet.

So even though Angelina does not have any obvious ailment, she’s having some blood and urine tests to be thorough. And she has a follow-up appointment in two weeks.

Measurements:

Angelina
head 45.25cm
length 26.25in
weight 12lb 10oz

Madeleine

Our Daughters Are Empaths

Jubilee and Madeleine felt sooooo bad about Angelina being sick for sooooo long that they decided to get fevers too.

Similar to Angelina, Madeleine has a low grade fever, but without any other symptoms. She started on Sunday. I suspected something was wrong because she started waking up in the middle of the night again.

Jubilee was completely worn out Monday, but I assumed it was due to waking up too early the past few days while Grammy was visiting. David thought she felt warm before he left for work, so later that morning I checked her temperature and it was 102.3! I was so shocked. And frazzled. Several families were due to come over in half an hour so I had to scramble and cancel the play date.

Jubilee was so disappointed that her friends weren’t coming over, I decided to pull out some books I had been saving for a special day. They’re actually her sisters’ books: Angelina Ballerina and Madeline. Neither of us had read them before, and both of us enjoyed them. I really liked them and look forward to reading these books to their namesakes.

By the way, Jubilee is fully recovered; I think Madeleine’s fever is gone too.

8.5 Weeks

Pauvre Angelina! (French for “Poor Angelina!”)

Note: The purpose of this blog entry is not to scare but to document the history of Angelina’s illness.

My Angel Baby has been sick for eight and a half weeks. It started with a cold by her big sister Jubilee, which she passed to Angelina, Grammy, and myself. But Angelina hasn’t been able to fight it off. At some point I believe Angelina started teething and it simply piggybacked onto the cold. She’s had a low-grade fever that keeps coming and going (once it hit 100.0, but usually it’s aroun 99.0-99.4)

After two and half weeks of coughing, I took her to the doctor. She had slight wheezing, so she was given a couple inhalers. An x-ray was also taken (what I call baby torture because they put her in this contraption to keep her sitting upright…awful!) but everything was normal.

At the five week mark, I took her to see the doctor again. The doctor found…nothing wrong. Nothing in her lungs, chest, etc. Angelina received an anti-biotic just in case.

She’s still got that fever though! Finally, a couple days ago the doctor said to stop giving her Tylenol/Advil in order to get a true reading of her fever. Does the doctor not know how cranky she gets without her medicine? Ah!

I started to give her teething tablets. I came very close to not giving it to her because it contains lactose! I suspect Angelina is not as allergic to dairy as she was before. Lactose is the sugar component of cow’s milk so I felt it was worth trying. No problems and I think they help her feel a little better.

Today she’s coughing some more, her nose is running more, and this evening it kind of sounded like she was losing her voice! The highest fever she’s had so far is once, when yesterday afternoon it hit 99.9; still a far cry from anything viral. Tonight, in fact, it was around 98.9!

I am thoroughly confused. This Friday is their 9 month checkup. We’re praying God gives the doctor wisdom!

When I want to listen to Gone, I like to listen to it on repeat. Yes, that’s over and over and over again.

I know quite a few of the lyrics to these songs. One day Mommy and Ba-Ba will sneak a recording of me singing along. The first lyric I ever started singing was “I ain’t no judge or jury” from Like It, Love It, Need It. Apparently Mommy has had to explain what this means to the dozens of people to whom I’ve sang this line.

We currently don’t have an iPod hooked up to our mini-van, but I don’t mind because I love looking at “the numbers.” “The numbers” refers to the on screen display of the disc and track number. I can’t always remember the name of the disc or song, but I sure do know what number it is. When Mommy and Ba-Ba attempt to confuse me, they will switch the CD’s around. But I quickly learn the new system.

Germs? What germs? (part 2)

Angelina stepped it up a notch today…

It was their typical playtime arrangement: The twins were sitting on a blanket facing each other, with several toys on the floor between them.

Madeleine was happily sucking on her pacifier, busy with some plastic cups, and then Angelina reach out, plucked Madeleine’s pacifier, and popped it into her own mouth!
