Precarious

It’s Jubilee’s room time where she is learning how to play in her room by herself. In a small voice I hear, “Mommy…Mommy help.” I find a trepidatious Jubilee “sitting” (read: her knees, not her bottom) on the edge of her crib rail, holding onto the post for dear life.

Big Bite for Big Girl

Jubilee wasn’t eating so I made up this song.

Big bite for big girl! clap (7x)
[sing 4 times is low voice]

She ate her entire bowl of lunch this way, after saying she was all done.

She Knows Her Name!

woman at park: What’s your name?
Jubilee: Jubilee

Blessing Food

Without prompting or asking, Jubilee prayed for her lunch. We didn’t understand her, but that’s okay. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” -Matthew 19:14

Jubilee may be talkative, but at this age, she often has trouble explaining herself. At dinner with my siblings, Jubilee was trying to tell us something but she was stuttering in trying to get her words out. Uncle Scot suddenly interjects, “Spit it out!” We all cracked up. (Except for Auntie Cyrena, who didn’t find his joke amusing.)

In the Car

Jubilee is not a car baby. The trick of leaving for home at bedtime does not trigger a silent ride home. So it wasn’t a surprise that on our way home from a weekend at Grammy’s that she was totally active from 8:00pm until 9:40pm. But then to our surprise, Jubilee yawned, declared, “I’m tired,” and immediately fell asleep. Silence, at last!

Conversation in the 3rd Person

Daphne: Jubilee, tell Dolly who you saw today.
Jubilee: Dolly, Bebe saw Breese and Drake.

Superchic[k]

One day Jubilee and I were listening to the radio and the latest Superchic[k] song came on. “This is Superchic[k],” I explained to Jubilee. Thus began the birth of our own one-girl revolution! Now, Jubilee always asks to listen to “Superkick!” She can recognize several of their songs after a few bars; it’s quite incredible.

Often, Jubilee asks me to sing Help Me Out God before sleeping. How’s that for a bedtime lullaby?

For myself, I’m very glad that she loves Superchic[k] because I don’t think I could get sick of them myself. And it sure beats listening to children’s songs over and over again.

Help me out God
I need a little something
Turn the brights on
I can’t see where we’re going cause I don’t know
when things’ll work out just fine
Or if this road we’re on leads us up
Or is leading me on down to my wishing well
Where I might drown
Oh I might drown
Cause I can’t swim without you God
