A-B, Dop!

This is my favorite word that Jubilee currently says. Of course, it took me a long time to understand what she was saying. I had no idea what “A-B, Dop!” meant until I noticed her signing at the same time.

After much contemplation, I realized she was signing “stop.” Then I thought about it some more. A long time ago, her friend Bryant was telling us that a stop sign says “S-T-O-P, Stop!” I thought it was so cute that I, too, began spelling “S-T-O-P, Stop!” whenever giving Jubilee the command.

Therefore, Jubilee also tries to say “S-T-O-P, Stop!” However, she hasn’t yet learned how to spell. But she does know the begininning of the alphabet! Plus, she can’t pronounce consonant clusters (e.g. “st”, “sp”), so the “st” sounds more like a “d.”

Put it all together and that’s why Jubilee shouts “A-B, Dop!”

Indirect Object

Jubilee’s learning the concept of indirect objects. There’s a picture in one of her books of a boy tossing food to a hippo.

Simple sentence: Boy…feed…hippo!

Complex sentence: Boy…feed…hippo…food!

She says these sentences with pauses, as if she’s processing the information as she speaks. It’s like she’s reading. Usually she says the simple sentence first, then says the complex sentence. Regardless, it’s very cute and intelligent!

A Logical Request

Jubilee, Pau-Pau, Gaun-Gaun, and I were having lunch at a restaurant. In the middle of lunch, Jubilee told me she had to go to the bathroom. (Eeewww, this was a Chinese restaurant, need I say more?)

I managed to get Jubilee in and out of the bathroom without her touching anything. (I even held her so she could use her foot to flush the toilet.) But when we got back to the table, she didn’t want to sit down anymore. “All done!” she declared.

Then Gaun-Gaun said, “Jubilee, Gaun-Gaun will take you outside to play, but after I’m done eating.”

Jubilee thought for a moment, then said, “Eat, Gaun-Gaun…FASTER!”

Advanced Jumping

Jubilee now loves to jump off of steps and curbs. Look Ma, no hands!

Play Dough

Jubilee gets to play with Play-Doh at BSF, so to avoid having dried colored bits all over the house, I thought I’d make some play dough (notice the non-trademark spelling?). I found an easy (i.e. uncooked) recipe online: 1C flour, 1/4C salt, 1/4C water.

Jubilee loves play dough! I brought out a wooden butter knife, a small plastic cylinder that could be used as a rolling pin, and some cookie cutters. She has a great time and often asks to “play play dough.” An added bonus is that it doesn’t bother me when she eat it.

Note: I asked David if he likes playing play dough with Jubilee and he said no. It must be a girl thing!!!
