What a treat! Today I got to take a road trip! Uncle Mike drove Mommy and me up to Oakland. We met Uncle Pastor Gary (does that sound funny?), Auntie Tracy, Phoebe and Appollos for lunch at Ikea. Then we walked around Ikea. I got to walk around and it was fun! Eventually, Mommy picked me up because I was also falling a lot. Then we went to the Lee’s house and played there. I was introduced to my first no-spill cup. I loved it so much that Auntie Tracy gave it to me as a gift. I wish Appollos was still in the nursery with me on Sundays. But it’s nice to visit them as a special treat.

Sometimes Jubilee likes to babble by ‘banging’ her hand against her mouth, changing her “Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” to “A baaa ba baaaaa ba ba baa aa baa baaaaaa ba ba aaaaa baa.” So she’s created a new meaning to the phrase “backhanded compliment.” (=
Jubilee and I were playing in the living room. I sat on the too-comfy-for-its-own-good couch, closed my eyes for a second, and immediately fell asleep. I must’ve dozed for no more than 3 minutes. I woke up to find Jubilee by one of the Ti plants with soil on her mouth, hands, clothes, and ground. This is actuallythe first time she’s been soiled…I hope it doesn’t happen again. (Note: in the past, Jubilee has banged on the pots, but never dug into the soil.)
While Jubilee loves her many toys, her top favorites are:
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Paper cardboard boxes, especially our empty cereal boxes, cards, mail, anything in the paper recycle bin
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Plastic - tupperware lids and containers, bathroom toiletries, name tags, anything she can throw to hear noise
At this point, Jubilee is considering a career as a bag boy at the local supermarket.
Jubilee loves to read books. In case you are wondering, this means:
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢ pulling out the book
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢ turning the pages
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢ pushing the book on the floor
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢ eating the pages
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢ hitting the book
?¢‚Ǩ¬¢ tearing the pages
But oh, does she love to read.
The other day Jubilee was playing with her toys, as usual, when I became intrigued by her play time. She was putting little things into big things (e.g. a small ball into a big cup), taking them out, and the sort. It wasn’t that she was squealing in delight or that she was surprised by her accomplished. She just liked working with her hands. I was so fascinated by her fascination.

Today is my Daddy’s birthday. I call him Ba-Ba, which is Cantonese for Daddy. To celebrate Ba-Ba’s birthday…I ate cake! Yummmmmmmy! Auntie Alice brought Yogurt Cake to Mother’s Suport Group. Mommy let me have some, since it wasn’t real super-duper sugary cake. I think me staring at her while she ate it also convinced her to give me some. Wowie, what fun it was to eat.
There’s a rope with two hooks, one on each end, that is used to keep the door from the garage to the house open. One end is permanently hooked to a nearby doorknob. The other hook dangles on the floor, but stretches to the doorknob to the garage. Jubilee likes to play with this rope and hook.
Today I heard her playing with it happily. Then I heard her whimpering. I walked over to find her crawling away from the rope. She was not hurt, so I figured she was just fussing over the rope and was done with it. Then I noticed she was still crawling, but hadn’t moved. Jubilee was trying to crawl away, but an opening near the ankle of her sleeper was caught by the hook! She’d been struggling to get away without avail, thus explaining her whimper.
Today we had lunch at David’s work. David ordered a club sandwich. Jubilee ate one-fourth of it. It was 2.5″ high. It consisted of: toast (3 pieces!), turkey, ham, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, mayonaise, and mustard. She ate some fruit too. And drank milk. We were in total shock. I kept thinking about the size of her belly and the size of the sandwich and I just couldn’t reconcile the two. How DOES she do it?!
Friday morning, Gaun-Gaun was saying, “She’s going to walk this weekend.” We thought to ourselves, “No, not yet.”
On Saturday, at Grammy and Poppa’s, she was playing just a few feet away from Grammy and me. She was standing near the keyboard bench, making lots of noise. Then she stood without holding onto the bench. It reminded me exactly of two days ago at Mother’s Support Group. Her arms were held out wide, yakking away. “Ah! Ah! Ah!” So cute. But then, with her arms still held out, and still talking away, she took…1…2…3…steps forward! Then her cute little bottom hit the ground. All the while, she was looking at the two of us the entire time. I cried out, “Dave! Dave! Dave!” but I couldn’t get the word “walk” out, so he missed it.
I’m so nervous that she’s going to walk while we’re away from her during the Imagine Conference. So I’ve been trying to not encourage her to walk. You know, things like asking her to walk toward me, forcing her to use her push cart, holding her hands up while walking with her. I don’t want to miss it.
