Ewwwww! Today I learned why we registered for our Neat Diaper Dispoal System. The repercussions of beginning to feed Jubilee acorn squash were reaped today. When I opened up the diaper, eewww! Boy, did it stink! And then, I got to be a close-up witness to how solids slowly ooze out of a baby’s bottom. With breastmilk, the poop is very runny; even adding rice cereal didn’t change anything other than the frequency. After two days of acorn squash, it was like squeezing toothpaste out of a tube. Okay, one final…eeeewwwwwww!!!

Jubilee has been eating rice cereal for 2 weeks now, so we will begin introducing a few different veggies over the next couple weeks. Daphne is having fun researching the “best” order for introducing foods. One of the principles we like is the suggestion that we don’t give her fruits right away, since their sweetness will guarantee some smiles. In this way, we hope she will develop a taste for veggies before tasting anything else.
Daphne has been quite resourceful, too! Rather than buy jars of baby food, she bought the squash, prepared it, baked it, mashed it, and then filled an ice tray with nice-sized servings for Jubilee’s first week. I’m very proud of her.
Jubilee’s tooth is slowly coming out. You can see two ridges on the tooth now. It’s not fun any more to let her bite down on my finger.
My dentist, the excellent Dr. Fong, taught me how to prepare Jubilee for brushing and visiting the dentist. If I use my finger to rub her gums, her tongue, and the roof of her mouth, Jubilee will learn to trust the toothbrush and the dentist. Now that her tooth is coming out, it HURTS when she bites down on my finger! I wish I had been more diligent in teaching her to keep her mouth open.
There’s a white spot on the bottom gums (just to the right of the middle when looking at the mouth)…other moms confirmed the gums are swollen…drooling has intensified…TO BE CONTINUED…
