Jubilee found her hands awhile back. (Finding her hands = putting them in her mouth.) But today there was something very different. She was crying while I was undressing her, but she suddenly stopped. Why? Because she soothed herself by sucking on her thumb! Even better, it’s her left hand that she likes to bring to her mouth. (=

Last night Jubilee slept from 12:15am until 7:30am when we finally woke her up! Woohoo!! If you count from feeding to feeding, it was 8 hours. Although we know not to expect this consistently from now on, it’s definitely a good sign of things to come.
Today Jubilee was especially talkative.. it was sooooo precious!! We got some good video footage of it, too.
What a great afternoon! My friends Jenifer and Tracy (with 6 month old Apollos and 3 year old Phoebe) came over today. Jenifer taught Tracy and me how to infant massage. (Jenifer is a physical therapist, and 7 months pregnant!) It was so much fun! Jenifer said infants don’t always like it, so you have to make sure you don’t do too much. Well, for the leg massage, Jubilee loooooooved it. No fussiness from her at all. She got a little fussy during the arms, so I stopped. She was starting to get drowsy, so I put her down (and she was out like like a light). Jenifer walked us through more steps, then we had lunch. She made egg salad sandwiches and homemade chicken soup. Holy cow, she’s still got a ton of energy in her third trimester! It was a great time together.
Jenifer had to leave for a doctor’s appointment, but Tracy stayed longer to finish eating and we chatted until Jubilee’s next feeding. Seeing Phoebe play with Apollos made me almost think it would be nice to have another kid. Emphasis on the word almost. (= Let’s take one day at a time.
I have a new playmate! Daniel John Saxton was born on Monday, March 21 at 8:52am. He weighs an ounce more than me… but I’m 1/4 inch TALLER!! Hee-hee!
But he needs our prayers.. he didn’t go home right away with his mommy and daddy because he was too jaundiced. Although he IS back home now, he still needs to go back each day to get checked by the doctor. I’ll let you know more when I hear it.
We have a new game! Jubilee is quite the squirmy little girl. Her arms flail and her legs kick everywhere. I take this opportunity to put her socks on. I position her sock so that she will kick into it. Then I push the sock onto her foot. It’s quite fun! And Jubilee already dribbles quite well (okay, it’s drool and spit-up). But with these two skills, she’s already become a formidable soccer player!
Sorry, it’s been so long since I’ve blogged. I keep thinking of things to blog about, but then forget to login and do it. Let’s see, here’s some random highlights as they pop through my head:
1. I just gave her a bath today and combed her hair. It didn’t stay flat (sorry Dave). But then I put a had on her to keep her warm and I think that may do the trick…for a moment at least.
2. Over the weekend, Jubilee celebrated her 50th day. We commemorated this by taking her footprint and handprint. We also played the song “Jubilee” by Michael Card and sang it to her.
3. Yesterday she scratched herself on the bouncer and broke skin. )= She didn’t cry; I don’t think she even felt anything. Whew!
4. I was so happy when I could go to Women’s Prayer Meeting on March 12th. When I got there, all the women were very excited. Ann (yes, my OB) said, “Last night I prayed that Jubilee would sleep so that Daphne could come.” And yes, that was a time when Jubilee slept 5 hours. In fact, she slept 5-6 hours for 5 nights, and then went back to her 3-4 hour time frame the following Thursday.
5. SHE DEFINITELY SMILES SOCIALLY NOW! It’s such a joy to see her smile at me. She really loves smiling while on the changing table. So diaper time is often quite pleasant.
Today was not very easy for me. Jubilee decided to start the day at 5:30am and she also didn’t nap very well. Several times, she would stir every 20 minutes and open her eyes. She looked like she was exhibiting hunger signs, but then she’d fall asleep. I wonder when I’ll be able to “read” her.
Last night we discovered another first: Jubilee’s first scratch! She has a tiny scratch on her nose. )=
We’ve posted some new pictures as of Jubilee’s 5th week.
